NASA has published an exceptional photo of Hurricane Issac as it made landfall on August 31, 2012. The picture was captured by Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite (NPP) at 1:57am CDT. Meteorologists are able to use images such as these to note key features about the storm and forecast direction and the strength of the storm. It may also predict where heavy rainfall is likely and aviation turbulence.
